A new 2.2G CF type harddrive is released and it seems that the speed is compare to 40x/52x fast CF card:

Interesting specs on that Microdrive.
* Advanced head load/unload technology; rugged shock resistance rated at > 1500G (non-operating)
I think it is guaranteed to be non-operating after dropping it!

Wow, that would be a good deal!
RAW shooters would probably grab it.

That just great!!! $200.00 here, $200 there and now another $200.00 toy I'll have to buy. Geez, I'm going broke and all I ever wanted was a decent camera.

Apart from 2.2G and 2.4G model, the vendor mentioned that they will release 3.6G this year end and 4.8G in 2004.

Hi,
I thought about it but did not buy if for the following reasons.
1.
I allready use an XsDrive for clearing my cards, same price as the 2.4 GB version of the CF card but now I have 30GB's.
2.
Powerusage, I read somewhere that the unit powers down every minute to spin up when you need it, that WILL drain your battery very quick.
3.
It uses almost 10x as much power as a CF card. 220 W compared to 35W (these figures could be wrong however)
It looks very attractive however :D.

The magicstor is not the same as a microdrive and made by a different company. Some local photographers from around here use it and the reviews have been bad so far. Apparently, its not as good as the microdrives by IBM/Hitachi. So I wouldn't get one.

...think I would wait for more confirmation and test reports. Peculiar error in their spec sheet:
Specification Model 1024C/1022C
Configuration:
Capacity 2,400 MB/2,200 MB
Heads 2
Disk 1
Interface CF+ Type II(ATA and PCMCIA Compatible)
Sectors 512
Areal density 30 Gbits/
Media type Glass
Hitachi will come out with a 4GB Microdrive soon...

Where could I find those reviews? TIA.
