Is this a folder where your able to put files that aren't photos and it wont effect your camera?
I tried it, and even erase all and no problems. Should i be carefull doing this though?

My experience has been fine as well when storing other data on the cf card. even just re-naming the file folder will cause the camera to ignore it. One interesting thing I found was that as long as I leave the folder name alone, the camera can still view .jpg files that it didn't take. For example, I had a photo of some friends, opened it up from the CF card, warped it, and then saved it as a new image back to the card. In the camera, it will show up, but if you go to the multi-image playback mode it shows up as a gray box with a ? inside it. If you do a format, the extra folder will probably get erased.

The Misc is an existing folder, i have never seen anyfiles there at all. My guess its that its meant for your files to go there if there not camera related.

See page 115 of the Canon Software Starter Guide.
You'll see that the MISC directory is created when setting DPOF settings.

I never had a go at that book, the camera manual was what i was after. Theres a book three tiems the size (from memory) on how to work the software compared to the camera. Though the camera would have have the bigger manual.
Will do, thank (now where'd i put that book?)

Hi everybody!
I guess that my problem concerns in use the compact flash to store another kind of data...
I got this error (Corrupted Data) that I'm showing in these couple of picture (the real one with botton part missing) and my camera's LCD showing the error.
After I got home I see what *could* be a cause of the problem: There was at about 20Mb of files (.rar, .exe etc) in the root of my compact flash card (that of course I save there a couple of days before). I downloaded the photos and format the card (normal FAT, not FAT32 in Windows XP) then the card was really cleaned. So no problems anymore... (until now! ;-) )
It was strange because I remember that I formatted the card from my camera...
So a couple of questions:
- Where is safe to put an file in the compact flash?
- When you use the format CF card option the camera it really erases all data??
Hmm... just one more: Did you have a problem alike mine?
Thanks in advance!!

Anywhere, but to avoid confusion steer clear of the camera's directories (i.e. DCIM) unless writing back images.
I have a root directory called mystuff and put everything there (sub folders the lot). I use my card as much as a data transport medium as I do a camera film card. To date I have had no problems.

I always format in the camera - but not often. All it does is empty the FAT and verify the FAT is correct. I have (as an experiment) taken a couple of shots, formatted the card and then recovered the images with software. (I used drive rescue)

In a word - No!

Its weird, its only hapened to me once. Mabey it was just bad luck or a bad write. Just happened to about 1/4 of the files.
I'll have to make my own folder, didn't think the camera would like it. Thats why i though they put that MISC in, for data.
Thanks people

Further to my earlier post, I have several cards and none of them have had a \misc folder on them. I'm wondering if you were sold a second hand card?

Your A70 will make the MISC directory when you set up some DPOF settings for one or more prints. If you never set up for dpof prints, the camera will not make the directory.

Fair enough - I never have, nor do I think I want to! Thanks for the info.
