Hiya,
My name is Midge. I live in New Zealand on a small-holding on which I breed Jersey cows. I just love photographing my cows. I cart my A80 with me everywhere on the farm. I'm soon to buy a camera with 8 megapixels and am quite keen on the Powershot Pro 1. I'd appreciate your thoughts and opinions on this camera. I have very little experience in photography so have heaps to learn. This is the first photography forum that I've joined and I get the feeling I won't need to go looking for another:D

Cheers

Hello Midge and welcome to the forums. We'd love to see some of your pics since I've heard that New Zealand is just a wonderful place.

If you're interested in the Pro1, sorry but I don't have experience with that camera but I can point you to the G and Pro series forum where you might be able to get more feedback from that camera.

Again welcome and hope you stick around. If you decide to get a Pro1 and keep your A80, I hope you stick around and join some of the challenges and share your photos and experiences.

Thanks for the welcome and for pointing me in the right direction re the Pro1 camera, dyle:D

We do have some spectacular scenery here in NZ and we don't have to drive far to experience totally different types of country.

After much mucking about I finally got a pic posted in the Powershot Speed Challenge thread.
Cheers

Hi Midge, welcome to the forums. I think you'll find this is indeed the only photo forum you will need (I know it is for me). I look forward to seeing photos of your cows. :)

hello midge..i have a pro1 i like it but some things to consider... Very poor ISO in anything over 100... Very slow auto focus speed.. Its tiny but it does pack quite a punch!..

what i like about it is the "L" lens, the tilt swivel LCD screen, the super macro mode..

Another con about it is, to use a filter, you need the adapter, and once the filter is on the adapter, its almost impossible to get off...lol
Here.. go to www.powershotpro1.com tell them zacker sent ya, its a free site like this but its exclusivly for pro1 owners.. they will be able to answere anything about that camera!

Ah!

Yet another Kiwi to add to our ever growing Tally.

There is a large group of us in Auckland who get together several times a year and have a days shooting somewhere, but numbers are growing else where in the country.
I recomend you have a search for GKPE, you will find lots of our threads.
Also check the Members Activities forum, we have a long thread in there of general ramblings.

Your now the second only Kiwi member with a Compact camera, Im another A80 user, if used correctly they are just as capable as a more expensive SLR.

I hope you don't mind me borrowing this thread, I thought I should follow your example and post a presentation of myself since I am also new to this forum.

My name is Micke, I'm 26 yrs old and I live in the city Eskilstuna, which is situated about 120 km from Stockholm, the capital of Sweden. I live with my fiancee and our two children, a 3 year old boy and a 7 month old girl. I spend my (week)days working as a technician at a small development company in the drug industry.

As far as photography is concerned I am really a novise looking to learn more. I recently bought a A610, as a successor to the A60 I have owned for about 3 years. My ambition is to learn how to use the manual possibilities of the camera and then perhaps move on to a DSLR in a year or so if I find that I outgrow the A610. Even though I have had a camera with manual possibilities (the A60), I have mainly used it as a P&S, so this is a new world for me.

I hope that I will be able to post some pics here in the near future, perhaps in one of the speed competions, which seem to be really fun.

More thanks for more welcomes guys:) And welcome to you miklon. I'm pleased to have the company of another beginner. There are so many terms and functions mentioned here, I wonder if I'll ever learn what they all mean:confused:

I use photobucket at present and had a bugger of a job downloading the pic onto the Speed Challenge. Is there an easier method of doing this, ie directly from my pc?

I'll check the threads you mention out asap Kiwi Moppie:) I'm in the Waitaki Valley and stuck with dial-up so it's taking me ages to see some threads. There are some fantastic pix posted in this forum. I am more than happy with my A80 but I have someone wanting me to contribute my cow pix to a photo library, hence needing 8 megapixels. And it needs to be another p&s camera;)

I'm going to check out the link you posted now Zacker, thanks, I appreciate your help:)

Welcome to the both of you!! I'm fairly new myself, and I can't believe everything that I have learned from this forum. Stick around long enough and you will start to understand all the ins and outs and the terminology. I was so overwhelmed and thought I would never get it, but I'm slowly getting there and I believe the key is to practice a lot and just get out there and have fun. Good luck to the both of you. :)
