Can someone please help me. I'm new to model photography but I've been watching allot of American Top Model and other photo shoots on TV. I always see them with these real nice white backgrounds but I can never tell what type of material they are using. I mean it sort of looks like some sort of thick paper or something like that. Can you please let me know what type of material it is an where I can get it from and can I make one myself. Thank You in advance.

It's called "Seamless" studio background, and it is indeed heavyweight paper rolled up. The normal size is 9ft wide by 36 ft long. Comes in an amazing variety of colors. The most common brands in the US are made by Savage and Studio Specialties. Most well stocked photo stores will have some or you can order it from B&H, Calumet, or The Set Shop.

Thank You so much. I'm about to call around now. How much does a roll normally go for.

I pay $156 Aussie Dollars... damn you guys get it cheap! That is for Colorama (UK made), but i don't think that really matters.
It wouldn't be worth my while importing it though... can't imagine one of those babies would freight very cheaply.

Price for 1 roll is usually about $40-45. Shipping can be very expensive if you order one roll. If you order several they average the cost out and it isn't quite so much. But your local camera store can probably order it from their accessories supplier like Brandess-Kalt and get free shipping as part of a regular order. The same situation came up when I ordered a darkroom sink. B&H was $20 dollars cheaper on the sink, but truck freight was $65. My local store ordered it as part of their regular order and there was no shipping charge.

Yeah that's exactly what I'm trying to achieve. Is there anything special I need to do to get that look.

I found the paper in stock at a local shop for the same price as B&H.
They carry about 6 of the common used colors, no shipping but I
did have to pay taxes.
