Well after getting loads of advice from everybody on the forum I am finally back from 2-weeks in Monaco with over 3,500 pics - now edited down to 900. These range from 2 historic car autions, the Historic GP and the normal GP. So far I have only sorted the F1 stuff but over time I will post pics from the other formula and the auction. Well here we go - all comments welcomed as this was my first attempt - These specific pics were all taken from public areas (Casino Sq) using my 350D with grip, Sigma F4 100-300mm and Sigma 1.4x Conv. No cropping or anything done to the pics - just rawshooter into jpeg

2 weeks in Monaco must of cost an arm and a leg! But the shots looks awesome :) colours are really vibrant and you get a sense of the speed in each of the pics.

Look forward to seeing more :)

Thanks for the comments - Actually it wasn't too expensive - cheap hotel in Beausoleil cost me about £40 per night (5 min walk to Casino) - the tickets over the period came to about £600 so that was a bit harsh but overall I think it was good value for money

Did you make anything back at the Casino? Could have been a money making trip instead of an expensive one ;)

Really great shot of Shumi! I love the motion in the wheels... the tight composition... and most of all the sharp helmet. Very well done! Did you get any wider shots? Things that show more of the atmosphere (buildings, etc.) of the event?

Nice shots, i've always wanted to go to the Monaco grand prix. It's on my list of things to do in the next few years. Not gonna go without a press pass tho!

The Kimi shot is my favorite. Schumi isn't too bad either. Kimi will take his place next year, so you can combine the two and get a future shot. Your Kimi one looks better than my couple year old Kimi one. Congrats on being there. You are lucky. Broke too, but lucky.

If you have never been to an F1 race, you are missing out. A NASCAR race is NOT comparable to F1. Two different animals, and once you see F1 live, you have seen some of the best machines out there.

Shots like that make me go weak at the knees, lovley cars and great photographs. What sort of shutters were you getting, would a 50-500 f5.6 been any use?

those are good, with a bit of PP (USM, saturation) they'd really POP!

Great shots. Too bad they didn't let Shuy race. Could have been a great race.

He did race, but from the back of the grid for cheating. IMHO (and a lot of others) he should have been banned from that race at least.

Just look at the aero package on Kimi's car!

You'd have to lease time on the NSA's computer system to do the fluid dynamics on that sucker

All the Exif data is in the shots - the Kimi one was taken from the front row at Casino at 1/400 - I had to play around with shutter speeds as these things really shift when they put the throttle down. As this was my first time shooting motorsport I just used all the advice from the forums and trial and error

First time shooting motor sports? Well, then my friend, you are darn lucky, aren't ya? Either that, or you got a LOT of non-keepers back in the dark corners of your hard drive from this shoot....

You did very well on these.

Some great shots there... Hasn't the aerodynamics got very complicated in F1 these days?

Thanks - I was there also for the historic racing the week before so I had some practice but it was my first ever event that I went to with the purpose of getting some good pictures - over my 11 days there I used over 20GB of storage and that was after editing out what I could see on my Epson P2000. My arm really ached though as I preferred to take pics without my monopod.

It was also quite difficult to get the shots as the gap between the cars and the top of people's heads was only quite narrow so many were lost to some unhelpful people standing up!!

I'm a Shuy fan but not defending him on this one. Just saying would have been a great fight to watch between MS, Kimi and Alonso.

Yeah, people are the biggest problem sometimes. If nobody is standing, then don't stand. If one person stands, then the people behind them do, and then behind them more do and soon, everybody is standing...and then they sit down again, and then here comes Schumi or whoever and they all stand up again.

I wonder if they do that watching it on TV?
