Looks a little busy.....To much or too many water falls at once. If you focus on a smaller area, like the center waterfall, it would be a little more pleasing I think.

Also looks a little out of focus or maybe some camera shake.....A tripod would help the shakes. It needs some post processing to bring out the shadows a little bit.

That looks like a great area to get some great shots....!!!!

Maybe a slower shutter speed to get that "soft water" look like this....

DO IT THEN AND SHOW ME WHAT YOU MEAN

My initial impression is that you have to low an f-stop (f3.2?) and too high shutter speed, unless of course this was hand-held, did you use the tripod ? .

It is a pleasing on the eye shot yes but i think i should be coming up there and going on a shoot with you Ray :).

Also do you have the camera set to super-fine ? ...

grandadraymond

I want you to try manual Ray its going to be painful for a while but you`ll thank me afterwards i promise ) .

Go to the same location and set it to manual - alter the settings to shutter speed 1/200 ISO50 and F8 , thats of course if its daytime shooting - then take the same shot with a tripod, if it looks too dark on the LCD then alter the shutter speed higher ...

I like this shot very much. It is interesting, and has good composition. The only criticism I have is the white water lacks detail. It's awfully hard to keep detail across such an exposure range, but it can be done with careful metering and some judicious post processing in PS.

i am a learner and i agree with you bobzellner ,i would rather try to achieve what you are saying, just to take a photo of gushing water at the expense of the rest of this beautiful location is not what i want,i guess what im trying to say to reeforbust is,your water is great, but your picture as a whole is very dull and uninteresting

Well, here's two of the same pics.....One with fast shutter, one with slow shutter. Everyone has their own like's and dislike's and I like the soft look that relays to you that the water is flowing and not just sitting there.... I guess I like the more artistic look.....

"i guess what im trying to say to reeforbust is,your water is great, but your picture as a whole is very dull and uninteresting"

It was this quote, seemed like a backhanded compliment to me.

Sometimes the whole scene doesn't capture the beauty of a place as well as a photo like Reeforbusts, which makes you feel like you are actually there. Your picture which actually captures a beautiful area, is flat and has no depth to it. I really hope this makes sense. I am honestly not trying to be insulting in any way. And forgive me if I assumed your quote above was not meant to be insulting.

No biggy......I don't get offended easily. Everyone has an idea in their head of what is beautiful.

I think he said "comments please dont hold back"! ????

Well, I told you what I thought and it hurt your feelings, Sorry....;)

Thanks for gettin my back though Bosman!

i spoke to a lot of experienced photographers on line last night about water shots, and they seemed pretty well split down the middle on this subject,of soft water you either like it or you dont ,but all seemed to be in agreement that you cant see water like this anywhere in the world, but only on a photograph

You must use a tripod with this sort of shot.I take it you used your tele lens.
Long lenses magnify camera shake, and there is a lot of it in this picture.

If you did not use the tele, the shake is equally unacceptable, but less understandable.

grandadraymond

no i did not use a tele lens, but i must say the climb up to that waterfall is pretty rugged
and i was probaly shaking myself, been told to get a (bean bag )which i will do, the awkwardness of the climb means a tripod is out i wanted to be as light as possible
thanks for the advice terry.RAY

If I don't have a tripod I just lay my camera on a rock or whatever to keep it still......The shots above were shot that way.

When you see waterfalls, they are moving. If you just "snap" a pic of it, it doesn't capture the movement but Stops the water in motion. Shooting with a long exposure gives back some movement and projects that through the picture to make you "feel" like you were there. When it's done right it is beautiful........;) (I am the half of experienced photographers that seem to like it!)
