View Full Version : Intermittent 10D Problems...

This weekend I ran into some disturbing problems with my 10D. I'm not sure at this point if they are lens or camera related. Unfortunately while the problems were occurring I did not have much time to try isolating the problem.

In the midst of a long shoot suddenly the camera refused to take a picture or set exposure in Av mode. The camera was on with fresh battery and the top display showed all indicators except for aperture (it was blank). Rotating the dial and switching to other modes (which also would not work) refused to wake it up or change the aperture value from blank. Finally I got an "Error 99". Cycling the power recovered the camera. This happened twice. The lens in use at the time was a rented Canon 20-35mm.

This could also be related to another problem I have seen happening intermittently over the last month or so. Occasionally (~3%) the LCD does not display the picture just taken -- it remains blank. This happens in between shots where the display works fine and no changes have been made from one shot to the next. I've seen this while using several lenses.

Has anyone else experienced problems like these?

Check the contacts on the lens.

Good thought. If this rears up again I'll check that. Considering the lens is a rental, I'm more suspicious it is where the problem originates. Although, there still is the lens-independent problem with the picture review...

Hey Rob

I had similar problems with my 50/1.8 (Mk I).

It is possible that the lens is to old to work properly with the High Tech 10D. I could sent in my 50/1.8 but they couldn“t promise, that they actualy could fix the lens. And since a new 50/1.8 Mk II is so cheap, I decided to wait and buy a new one next month or so.
