HDR images always look flat to me.

I think you've done really well.
The first one is great - but may be over-saturated a little (? - the blue colour in the on-coming traffic)...
I love the last one.
Well done :D Can't wait to see more...

You need to adjust the exposure (photoshop) after compiling the images together.
good attempts, I especially like the second image.

i did adjust the exposure on all of them. the first one, i dont remember messing with the Saturation at all, i thought i just merged them, adjusted the exposure, changed form 32bit to 16bit, didnt mess with the histogram at all, then changed it from 16 to 8bit. and adjusted levels and cloned out a powerline.

any more advice? im going to try this again this weekend.

I like #3 the best. HDR is tricky. Ive tried it a couple times and hopefully will have more time to shoot some more images this weekend.

Did you adjust the levels in 8bit or 16bit? 16bit would be preferable, dropping to 8bit should be the very last thing you do.
Maybe the exposure needs to be increased a little? then levels tweaked, I think a common mistake made seems to be keeping the contrast flat.
Anyway as I said is a good attempt, keep at it :)

so should the contrast be increased in these photos?

thanks for the info. im going to take some more tonight and see what i can do.

do night time HDR images work? or is it more of a day thing?

i mean i know they work, but are they just better during the day?

I did a night shot of the sears tower using 3 images if you want to check it out.

thats a very nice shot pas, im going to have to try the photomatix. how is it compared to the Merge HDR function in cs2?

Thanks,
Ive not used the Merge HDR in CS2 yet. Ive done some HDR by hand in PS 7. They turned out almost as well as the photomatix did.

Nice shots! The third one is brilliant. I had my 1st try at HDR today, I think it turned out ok. I used a RAW file and created 3 different images, each exposed for different parts of the image. Is that right? I then merged in CS2 by hand, I love using layer masks.:)

or just use the Merge to hdr tool thats built into cs2. its under File>automate>merge to hdr

Yep, Thanks for clearing that up. I cant get the merge to HDR tool in PSCS2 to work if i use 3 images from a RAW file. Im probably just doing something stupid.

hmmmm worked for me..... odd. you know i always found cs2 funny sometimes it would work and sometimes it wouldnt. because i did a 11 shot RAW file hdr merge, and i did a 3..... stupid.... I tried the photomatix HDR merger and was not a fan at all.

Ok, the first one has me a bit interested in your approach.

If I'm seeing this correctly, you've taken different shots at different timed lengths. Then just combine them and process HDR as usual?

How many shots did you take for the first one?

Can someone explain to me what HDR is? I am new here and not familiar with all of the jargon yet. If there is a more appropriate forum to ask quesitons such as this please also let me know.

Thanks! very cool shots!!
