I have a canon D10 with macro lens and ring flash and was wondering if anyone knew what the best settings were for optimal dental photography. When I take pictures now I get the focus good on the centered tooth but surrounding teeth are out of focus. Any suggestions from dentists using this camera would be extremely helpful. Thanks in advance.

Hi,

Choose a very high aperture size.
When going closer DOF will become smaller.

Funny, I use the University of Md Dental School Faculty Practice, and my Orthodontist dumped the ring-flash when he moved from film to digital - and instead relied on the pop-up flash.

Small aperture is necessary as stated - and set focus at the middle of the oral cavity rather than the front tooth.

Wow! They are pretty expensive except for the outdated film oriented books.

Also do a google search with using the parameters: "dental photography"
