CDS,
Far be it from me, not trying to be a right pain in the bum, but can I get an opinion on the moon pic I sent you last week? I am looking for an honest opinion. If you think it is crap, please say so, but I don't think it is, considering you can see all kinds of craters as you can see in the pic too. Are you going to post it? I know there are a lot of others waiting to see it too. Is there a problem w/ the pic? I sent it to the address you provided. Just wondering what's up? Incidentally, I have also ordered a Canon 16-35mm F2.8L lens to make up for the zoom factor (1.6x) the 10D has. Setting info: F7.1, 1/60 sec, taken 6 Sept 03, 2105 Local

Cheers,
Canuck

What a pain! :D

No I'm sorry,. I have been super busy! I am at work now with no acces to the e-mail to which you sent the file,. and well we have a large Ballet setting up and rehearsing for performances next weekend...

Thus my time is in short supply.

I will "TRY" to get to it tonight when I do get home... which will be about 10:00pm :)

p.s.

The image looks great! I will post the crop you sent me (as there is little reason to post all the black sky in the original)

CDS,

Thanks for the info! I do believe this new lens has stepped up my ability to take pics another level! I was beginning to wonder if the images got lost in cyberspace, or what happened. I understand how time can be a very sought after thing. I should have more time to take pics the middle of next month! :)

I shall send some pics from Wales next. I just need to shrink them from 36MB to a more believable size. These are no different, same sharpness. I think the one I'll send you next to the same e-mail address was taken in Wales, in Saundersfoot, right on the water. It is near Tenby in Pembrokeshire (I believe, don't quote me though). There is one in Angle that is wicked, it has about 10 shades of blue in it. I'll send that one 2nd. Pse post these as I send them. If you happened to read one of the other threads I started on this lens, Slow is from over this neck of the woods and you can ask him about the Welsh Coastline. It is beautiful! BTW, there is also mentioned a place in Wales, Llanfair.......................................... .....................gogogoch
Check it out! I think I put a reasonable prononciation. If not the website can help. http://www.llanfair.com.

The reason I sent the original is so you could see what I meant by all the black night sky. I do believe that is large setting, 3072x2048 for the original! If you increase the light, there may be some star trails lurking about. Idunno. I know there is in some other ones I took w/ 30 sec exposure.

Cheers,
Canuck!

CDS,
No worries, I can understand not having time. I am however, sending you some Wales pics, both using the 120-300 mm lens. For the sake of humanity and the fact that I can't send a 36MB TIFF turned 4.1 MB (Yahoo limits me to 3.0MB) I have shrunk it. The first one is self explanitory...part one of the Tenby Beach. The other one is the same beach, totally different vantage point. Enjoy! You may post them, too as you have time. As we say it is all you after I send them! I have done some very slight mods to both the aforementioned pics in Adobe Photoshop Elements 2.0!

Cheers,
Canuck.

PS: It is "Canuck", not "Canouck" LOL!
Also I see you have posted Moon pic! Thanks! More to come!

CDS,
Just winding you up as they say over here. :) I'm giving u a hard time. It was funny, eh? Btw, I've been to Canada many times. You up for a Canadian joke? It's rather amusing and it's only for a laugh. What is the difference between a Canadian Goose and an American Goose? The Canadian goose goes, "Honk, eh?" :) LOL!
I'm in the process of attaching the first Wales pic. Man dial-up is pants! (Should I say crap, for Americans!) It is soooooo slooooooow! I can't wait for broadband to get into this area. This is one area England is way behind the power curve, unless you are in a city like London, Cambridge, Norwich, Manchester, Liverpool, Oxford, etc.

I wonder how long this will take to send a 1.7 MB pic? Just sent...about 10 min. You have mail!

Cheers,
Canuck

CDS,
You have now seen 2 pics taken by an amateur photographer, and I remember how you wanted to see what the lens can do. What are you thinking so far? I think it's an absolutely awesome lens other than it weighing 5.75 lbs. It's a lugging lens, but it shoots great. It convinced me to punk out moolah for the 16-35mm F2.8 Canon "L" glass. That's the one bit I really don't like about the 10D when shooting lanscapes/wide angle shots. What could I do? I have to say on the flip side, it is cool having the free zoom to capture stuff like the moon and especially you shooting birds. It makes that 500mm lens an 800mm and no loss of f-stop. I might send you one tomorrow. Time will tell. Thanks again for posting it.

Cheers,
Canuck

If I get a "New" lens this will probably be it,..

.....but I am holding out for a while,. as I am trying to find a used Sigma 500mm f/4.5 prime. If I can get that lens most of my long range problems will be solved for good. As there is no way I will ever be able to get a Canon long telephoto prime ($5,000.00 minimum!) Whereas when the Sigma 500mm's actually sell they go for about the same price as a new 120-300mm f/2.8 ($1,600.00 or so)

So we shall see. It's been months and I can't find one used that some Idot on E-bay isn't asking tooo much for :)

Hmmm...
You bring up an interesting thought...
How is it that you should be saving w/ ebay, but yet you get ripped off thru ebay? Glad you think that this lens would be a possibility, given you don't find the others. That's cool! I have leaned that you can look twice as smart, making 1/2 the mistakes learning from other "idiots" as some of us call them. I'm kinda thinking of dabbling in Astrophotography. There is a rally, of sort in Diss, in Norfolk later today so, I'm thinking I'll bring the 10D to see about a telescope that I can mount the 10D on. As you know, and others that have played w/ larger lenses, you mount the camera on the lens; not vice versa. I'm kinda hoping for a nice day today...we had some lovely British weather (rained all day) yesterday and I could stand for some unBritish weather (no rain) today. I'll be off for Wales again inside a fortnight, so I'm hoping it will be no rain. Welsh weather is wilder than British weather as it can change so fast. I can't begin to tell you. Although, in England one never gets bored as you can get all 4 seasons in one day. Been there done that! Last winter, as I went to work it was in the 60s and soon it dropped into the 40s and rained, then got progressively colder and eventually snowed around 2300. Those were some huge snowflakes! Also, note if anyone comes over in the winter, black ice is nasty! Heck, winter here is dicey in East Anglia as most people just don't know how to deal with it! Believe me I know how to deal with winter!
I dealt with it for 18 winters, then again it was funny watching people drive one of two times I saw it snow in Tucson, Az. I'm cruising like nothing happened and natives are going about 10 mph. That was a right laugh if ever I had one. Sorry, I'm just used to 12+ ft of snow yearly! To watch an inch or 2 of snow bring a town to a less than grinding halt is rather amusing! It happened here in England too, except they had 4-6 inches. I was laughing as I had been skiing in Austria, and had (well) I can't even begin to imagine how much snow 2km up on the Alps. So I was stuck in Salzburg as Stanstead was closed. That was an 8 hr wait to get it sorted. The M11 was posted as 20MPH. It was rather slick, though.

Man it is the new day here in England...0655L and the sun is up. I'll have to tell you when the sun rises and sets on the shortest day (in the winter) I was rather amused.

Cheers from England,
Canuck

You could do that too if you like.
I'd also like some feedback on the pics as people see them!

Canuck.
