My daughter accidently dropped my A70 down some steps. Everything works fine on the camera except the toggle switch on the back that switches from camera to review/download. It still takes pics but when I switch to the review nothing happens, it stays the same as on camera mode. I can even take pics on review. I don't know if the pics are storing on the memory card because I don't have a card reader and with the switch broken I can't upload to computer.
I contacted Canon and they want minimum 89.00 to repair. Not sure this will be worth it as the camera is two years+ old.
Anyone have a similar problem and know what might be wrong?
Thank you for your help.

These switches are apparently (based on others' reports here) a mechanical weak point of this camera, even without dropping it. I'd say chances are pretty good the knob-to-switch mechanical connection has failed, but that the camera is still taking pictures. Perhaps you could borrow a card reader to confirm this. Even to purchase one is only about a third the quoted repair price and it's not a bad thing to have around anyway. If you go that route, consider a universal card reader (CF, SD, other card formats) so that if you do decide to replace the camera with one that uses a different format, you can still use the card reader with the new one.

Thanks Jeff...you were right. I purchased a universal card reader and the camera is still taking pictures. The card reader uploads them much faster.

Thank you for the great advise.
