Thanks BC and Marie
The loupe fits right over the lens barrel perfectly. I just attach it with a small peice of masking tape. It has to be zoomed all the way in or you'll get a tunnel effect in photos. The distance away from the item to shoot is approx 2". Very close and the dof is quite fine. I have to take multiple photos and choose the best as I cannot tell from the lcd what is the clearest shot.
The world sure looks different from this perspective. I've taken a few shots of items this way.
Here is a jewlers loupe for Marie. They fit right over your eye. Cost $3.00 cdn. Very cheap.

Colin do they come in different magnifications? You say it fits right over the lens barrel, I wonder if the G's are the same size barrel as the A's and if they'ed fit? course at that price it's worth a try.

I'm sure they do come in larger optical sizes. As far as it fitting on the G barrel I have my doubts. I think the G barrel is larger. This just fits over the inner barrel of the A40. Like you said though it is worth a try. There is a guy that frequents ADI who has used a door peep as a fish eye lens and has had some different results but one thing was the tunnel effect. At 3 bucks it's worth a try.
This was also shot using the same loupe. It's size is about the same as a peppercorn.

very many thanks for all the information and also the photo of the loupe conk .
that was nice of you.
seems something like what my dad used to look through when he was repairing small electrical items
I can remember seeing him in his workshop with 'something' like this over one eye when concentrating intently over an item he was working on.
and that last flower picture is beautiful

CA = Chromatic aberration (usually red or/and blue borders in contrasted edges)

Now that you say that I'll have to tell you there was a lot of purple haloing around the yellow petals. The spider is pretty much how it looked from the camera.
