Does the S60 have focusing problems?

I bought a Canon PowerShot S60 recently and was wondering if the auto focus is less than desirable? Seems like subjects shot within 2 feet are properly in focus, others are in or out of focus. Also, it seems like the camera is slow to lock the focus when I'm ready to release the shutter.
