I am not aware of any other alternative to the Canon branded part. LA-DC52C

Are you talking about the lens adapter, or the additional lenses to put on the adapter? I don't have it yet, but that adapter is only like $20 US. It doesn't get much cheaper than that. Now lenses on the other hand, I know there are some that are much cheaper than the Canon lenses. I don't know how their quality compares though.

It's $20!! It's cheap enough as it is!

The only other company I know is Kinkei or something like that. That's where I got my adapter for my A40. Again, $20. I think the official Canon one was $30 at the time.

Cheap yes, but for what it is, no.

Yeah ive heard of a tiataninum one, but for the price, probally would be more.

Yes, I agree the adaptor is too exensive for what it is. Especially, over here in Belgium. How much would the camera cost if all it's parts were valued using the same scale!?!

They only get away with it because u need it for the add-on's.

Bugger of a sales idea but its working for them.

I notice that the Canon lens adapter is black... Have you seen others in the same color as A70???

Well, I won't be buying one - I shall grumble under my breath for a while - Grrrrr :) - while waiting for an alternative to arrive.

Yo

Am in the same predicament... done some research on this.

While the Canon lenses are expensive; I think they are the best to date. I was looking at purchasing a polarizing filter; the telephoto; wide-angle and the closeup lenses.

I have priced these in Ottawa and I am looking at $750 Canadian. Do the math and I haven't added the 15 percent tax to that.

On the other hand; try Kenko; they are good as the Canon and not any cheaper. A word of caution; do not buy the Opteka available on Ebay... ( including the adaptor and two of the lenses for US $100)... if it's too good to be true....

The choice is yours... I purchased the Kenko polarising filter with the Canon adaptor and so far so good. I am still debating on which brand of telephoto I should buy and am looking at doing so next month.

Be aware that Canon does mention in the manual about barrelling ... or was it vigenetting (sp) on the telephoto lens....

Whatever your decision; do let me know...

Do you have personal experience or is it your assumption? They're down to under $75 for both lenses and adapter. Hard to pass up at that pricce, but I can't get any info on the quality.

Not really a bad idea, it's an intermediate step between the body and the add on lens. If you had all three attachments but no adapter, each attachment would be that much larger. Taking more room and costing more.
The adapter, keeps the cost and space required down. It's not free, and it doesn't come attached as not everybody needs one.

I know of an alternative over here in Germany: http://www.soligor.de

but the price is similar to the original ones from canon, and I don't think, they ship to the US or Canada.

I am working on an assumption; cos if you read the sales pitch for the Opteka lens; claim the product is as good as any other... 3 filters; an adaptor; wide angle and close-up.... all for US $99.00.

That is a very good deal.... as the same two lens and the adaptor cost nothing less the US $350. Canon does not manufacture filters for the A70. Lenses manufactured by Kenko; Tiffen are in the same price range.

Hence if it sounds too good to be true... Buyer Beware.
