I know there are dozens of new powershots which make my heart drop everytime I see them at lower price than this A520 I bought.

Well, anywyas, I donot understand a knack on macro. I bought this camera for that feature so can someone explain to me? Because I see no difference between a photo with the macro on or off.

And also, how do I get the effect here the subject is sharp while the background gets blurry?

Is there any sites which guide us to such techniques?
Thanks

When set to "macro" you can get the camera physically closer to the subject so that it looks larger and stays in focus. With my A95 I bring the camera back about 14 inches and then zoom in on the subject to blur the background more. Just experiment and see what results you get--and have fun!!

thank you, i shall try. After looking at SLR pictures, they made me think whether digital cameras can achieve similar results or not?

Do a search on this forum on Bachground blur. I started a thread on it a while ago and everything you will want to know about it is in that thread. You only use the macro mode when you want to get close-ups. Your manual will tell you the minimum and maximun distances that it will focus in macro mode. As far as price - that's just technology. If I had waited another month to buy my S2, I could have saved about $75. But then I would not have had the camera for a month.
