View Full Version : I'm seeing green with my Canon 950 printer

Not too long ago I acquired the Canon Pixus 950i (it's the Japanese version). I printed a few pics, was impressed and left it for a few weeks (busy with other things).

Now that I'm printing again, I've noticed that the pictures are green. Okay, maybe that's an exaggeration. They look more like they were taken with a light green filter. I reviewed the first pictures I printed and they appear to have the same green "filter". I guess I was too excited in the beginning to notice.

Anyway, is there any way to calibrated the color balance of the printer? Could it be a printer problem? Maybe the paper?

Right now, I'm making the photos reddish to compensate. In Photoshop Color Balance, that's +10 on the Cyan-Red and -30 on the Magenta-Green after Levels.

By the way, I don't think it can't be the monitor though because the photos look fine on other monitors too.

Take it you have gone though the cleaning / deep cleaning process on the Maintanence tab ?

Just that if it has been sitting round for a few weeks with not printing ...

Well, actually... (sheepish grin) I didn't print that many pictures when I first got it so I figured it didn't need any cleaning. But yeah, I guess you're right. I'll try cleaning.

It also might not be the printer, rather your monitor that is not color calibrated. I have the A3 version of the i950 and the prints are perfect. You could also check what settings you have made in the printer driver preferences. There could be a number of reasons for the green cast other than the printer.

It looks like it's the paper AND the monitor.

I've been using some cheap third party paper (for practice) and I guess it's color is a bit on the greenish side. Not too obvious until I actually put it side-by-side with Canon Pro Photo and FujiFilm Pictro papers.

As for the monitor, it's a flat panel (Mitsubishi Diamoncrysta RDT177M). It's supposed to be good and it is. It's just that the images are on the reddish side and no amount of tweaking (I spent hours) will get it right.

I hooked up my old Compaq 14" non-flat screen monitor and the colors were much more accurate. In fact, they were pretty close to the actual printout.

I guess I need to get rid of the flat panel then. But are there any flat panels out there with accurate colors?
