I know you've been working on it and testing, and not trying to nag or rush it.

Just wondering if you could give any basic timeframe update.

Or when we shouldn't expect it. Like, I won't be able to work on it till next weekend.
Or Possibly this weekend, etc.
Or I'm uploding it now :P

Have a great weekend.

Hi,

Sorry as always, some delays happened due to my orchestra work and some photography work.

Yesterday I completed 1.3Rc -> 1.5b2 database upgrade script and have tested it with few databases successfully (like Art's datbase with over 30 exhibitions and 2000 photos).

Today I've took some time to make an important addition to EE Backup, addition request by some users (especially for Sean S.): make restoring large file backups very reliable on slow machines and machines with random SQL server timeouts, and using practically zero RAM. I got some ideas of how to do this without using Javascript or HTTP header tricks so I coded it now when the idea was clear in my mind. This work will also be useful in EE's upload section later.

What is now left: I need to add a switch to enable/disable comments and ratings per exhibition (now it's global setting). This is relatively easy and I will code it today (it's 10:45 pm here). One other thing left is to check all distribution files (drop unneeded, uncheck debug code etc.) and pack it to zip and type some instructions.

So, I feel very confident that you will have 1.5 beta 2 with 1.3RC upgrade script tomorrow.

Beta 1->beta 2 update will be done asap after that.

Hey Pekka,

I have beta1 installed since it was released and apart from the known bugs it works quite well.

Will the beta1-tot-beta2 upgrade script be available before the 12th of Octobre ?

Getting impatient, but then that 's human isn't it :-)

Can I use the already published files to upgrade my beta1-installation or should I wait for the final version with all the fixes (already ten of them) applied ?

thank you,

Chriz

Basically what updater does is alter beta 1 database structure to match structure of beta 2's database. To do this you will have to have clean install of beta 1 and clean install of beta 2 and then build commands (or run them in PhpMyadmin) which convert beta 1 database. There are many new rows, some datatypes and row names must be changed and photo.php date and time fieds must be combined to datetime row (this can't be done in phpMyadmin).

It's not hard to code with PHP, but you can't do it in hurry. Even small bugs in it can render a database inoperative.

It you try to hold your horses just a little more - this evening I have a symphony concert to play and after that (today evening and night) I'll have time to do the updater.

I'll hold my camels and wait for the updater.
