Once again the Croft weather lived up to its random reputation, only this time it was steaming hot. I currently resemble a radish

Today was a Britsh Automobile Racing Club (BARC) event with a sprinkling of Darlington & District Motor Club (DDMC) stuff thrown in. All in all a very enjoyable, if hot day's racing :)

An example of the heat...hazy or what?

My favourite MG of the day, a B GT driven by Kevin Broadley in the MG Owners Club Championship.

Legends !...some excellent racing and a fair few thrills & spills in this event. I reckon Croft need a few truckloads of fresh gravel next week as these guys seem to like taking it home with them...

On to the Radical Challenge. This car, driven by Phil Waite took 2nd place in today's race.

Finally and just for Glenn, a pan shot of the Radicals race winner, Dominic LESNIEWSKI. Yes, i did cut & paste his name from MST as i'd probably break a few fingers trying to type that

A couple of lessons learned from today. The Sigma 120-300 & 2x TC is a fine combination, but hot tracks and heat are not its friends.

Also, never assume a piece of failed equipment is beyond repair. My 40Gb XSdrive showed a HD Failure message, so i assumed i'd be buying a new drive. However when i opened it up tonight i found a loose connction was the problem and fixed it....wooo and indeed hooo

I also met up with Peter (Petrolhead) and KevB today. Nice to meet you chaps, for the 2nd time in Peter's case :)

Thanks for looking, if you haven't fallen asleep reading this drivel ;)

I know Ken :)

I arrived late after waiting for Autoglass to put a new side window in the works van, damaged courtesy of some nice chap in Sunderland yesterday  so i missed the pick-ups today...

They're on the target list for tomorrow though :)

The MG's were borderline boring and the Radicals appeared to be doing parade laps instead of racing. No DDMC tommorow, Pickups instead. I covered this lot a couple of times last season and they are very competitive. They leave chunks of bodywork around the circuit, generally enough to panel out a couple of trucks, so be prepared for some close hard racing. If you have not seen them before, you are in for a treat.

Great shots Geoff & Ken - you can certainly see the heat haze - don't think it is going to be as sunny today but am there so if I see a 'radish' will wave!;) :D

Nice shots Geoff and Kenny.:) I have yet to convert any of mine(sun seems to have spoiled a few). I think maybe the best ones are probably when Geoff had a shot of my camera. Was nice to meet Geoff and Petrolhead and thanks again for the tips. Those pick ups looked great in qualifying so i'm going to pop down again to see those and i can have a bit more practice with my new 100-400.:D There will be two radishes there today Coatsie as i got a tad burnt too :o

Good to meet up and wada a scorching day, was well sunburnt but the time I drove home.

Cheers Geoff for the try of the lenses

here are my results - http://www.petrolhead.me.uk/croft_photo.htm

Disapointed with the 'on coming' car photos and wonder, for me, I was shooting at too slow a speed

Seems like there was quite a few forum members out at Croft yesterday. If you have a look in the background of shot 3 I think it is via your link, you'll see me in the background. As well as KennyG, IanH and Dengli were also out and about yesterday.

I won't make it up today unfortunately, as I have some other committments.

Cheers,

Simon.

Simon, let me know next time you are up this way as I would love to try your 300 f4 and 1.4 tcon :)

PS are you the guy with the floppy hat in pic 3?

I only live 15 minutes from Croft;) .

Yep that's me - you should get yourself a Tilley Hat - might look a bit stupid, but it keeps the sun off you head and neck, and the soft brim means it doesn't get in the way of the camera.

Cheers,

Simon.

Nice shots Geoff. Kept my eyes open for you on Saturday, but unfortunately never spotted you. #1 and #3 are great shots. #1 shows the difficulty in shooting Clervaux around the middle of the day in summer.

Cheers,

Simon.
