Hi All,

Critique is welcome as always. This is a picture of a glass horn/tusk that I had brought into PaintShop to sharpen up a little. I split it to the CMYK channels to USM the black (K) channel before recombining. But I liked the look of the black channel on its own and this is the result after some minor touching up.

Cheers

Ian

I like it, but can you get a bit more contrast between the glass and the background? Its almost really good.

I'm not too keen on it. The shadow seems rather unsettling (seems almost like a negative on the right side of the picture.)

It's cropped a little to tight for my taste ...

... and I'd like some catchlights to brighten up the image. Or was it supposed to be a sinister picture?

Andy

I like the technique and the effect, its unusual without being garish.

The resulting picture is quite nice too, but not outstanding.

I wonder if this picture perhaps need something more though, maybe a flower in the vase, still in full colour? I don't know.

I would persist with this technique and try a few more subjects and compositions to see what you get.

I think there is a lot of potential here, and while this picture is OK, and I think you could get some really good images with a bit of effort.

I'll give it another go. Thanks for all the comments.

Sinister and unsettling is just the sort of thoughts I had when I stumbled across it while processing.

The shot was only taken for insurance purposes as it is an expensive bit of glass, well, it is in my book.

I'll actually use it now to further develop the effect and I'll post some more once it is improved.

The original picture is below.

Cheers

Hmmm, and I thought "expensive glass" meant an L lens! :D
