For a home studio (portrait shots), is it worth it to purchase the expensive photoflex kit instead of the $500 everlight (3 lights)? Any experienced folks out there? Thanks.

The ever light kit is a great kit for the money. I also have regular studio lights. I also looked at the Photoflex kit's but did not want to spend the extra money.

I also have the everlight kit (after the recommendation by Evangelos in another thread). I am very pleased with it. I'm certainly not a studio pro, but the kit is very versatile. I've used it for both photography and videography. For someone with my lighting experience level, the kit is fantastic. I will admit to being a flash lighting idiot. Studio lighting techniques are something I need to learn, but with the everlight kit, I set the lights and move them around until I see what I'm looking for in the viewfinder and fire away.

There are the drawbacks of producing heat for sure and the pupils of the subject will contract. I've also been messing with using the kit to light the background/foreground but not aimed at the eyes, in combintation with the 550ex/softbox for catchlight and it works. I'm definatley learning a ton about lighting angles by being able to see what I'm doing as I'm doing it. So, there's a novice's opinion for you. I'm sure those with pro experience will lend their expertise as well.

Good luck,
David
