I have friend who called me today thinking I might know the answer to the following question.

" I was asked by my grandfather to take our old 35mm slides and convert them to electronic files"

Anyone know the best way to do this?

I was thinking a film scanner but when I told him this he said they have all the cardboard around them.

As usual guys any imput is great, and thanks for the posting

Many film scanners have adapters that hold mounted slides, so the cardboard is not a problem. Determine the quality of scanner you need, then make sure the one(s) you're considering come with that adapter. Good luck.

One typical scanner is the Canon FS4000. It comes with two adapters. One adapter holds four 2x2 mounted slides, and the other adapter holds a strip of 35mm film negative.

It all depends on how many slides you would like to scan to justify the cost of a scanner. You or your friend might want to take them to Wolf/ ritz Camera & I think anyone with the new frontier proccesser can due it.
