I currently have non working gallery and it seems like I have 3 choices -

1) Sit and wait for version 2. just over a week ago Pekka said V2 wound be released within a week. Surely it can't be that far away now?

2) Do a fresh install of 1.5, apply the fixes and reinstall either
a) An old sql backup that matched my backed up photos
b) A current sql backup and recreate the photos used in the gallery
BTW can I do a fresh install with out having to initialise the database? Can I skip that step and use the existing database?

3) Patch my hacked copy of the gallery and carry on using it. However, I've tried adding the patch files and now get the error message "INSTALL ERROR: DEFAULT LANGUAGE 'eng' NOT AVAILABLE"

Any input on the above would be welcomed. It would be especially useful to have a firm release date re version 2 so I don't have to go through the pains of a reinstall only to find V2 released the next day :-)

Regards

Mike

Re option number 3, it seems to some files didn't get uploaded properly and now that I've reuploaded them all of the pages are working OK again.

However, I have some recent photos listed in my database that the photos physically don't exist for. I didn't have a backup of them. Is there anyway I can uplaod the large photo and then get EE to create the various sizes including thumbnails or do I have to creats and upload them all manually?

If that's the case then it might be quicker to delete them from the database and recreate them from scratch.

I'm working overtime to get 2.0 out because of this problem. With 2.0 you get much better security, spam prevention to guestbook and comments, re-upload/resize to individual sizes in photo editor etc.

With 1.5 you can always upload large photos with normal ftp, check the filename and paths in photo editor.

After the hush of the last weeks and the lack off satisfying support from my host I went for a closer look to the things.
I found a new host; cheaper for more things then I have right now. And also very good support. The parameters could be changed; so itt will be definitly much safer.

The only thing ting I ask myself at the moment;
Should I backup averything from my old host an restore it with the new one?
Or should I just put an temperary unavailable page there and start over with Version 2 (wich I intend to do anyway)? But then I don't want to display this page for to long time.

So Peka, can you share an update with us once more about the progress of version 2?

Greetings
jeroen

Sorry, been away for couple of days. You should backup all images and your database. Then get original EE files and rebuild your EE with them.

OK thank you for your reply.
Will do it this week. (good oppurtunity to learn more about the new host and also about PHP and MySQL in general)
