Hi/Salut,

Does anybody speack the french ?

I can't connect my Canon IXUS 500 to my computer (OS: XP, SP1) by un USB cable.
Message that XP returns :
(begin of message) "Peripherique USB non reconnu.
Un peripherique relié a cet ordinateur a mal fonctionné et Windows ne le reconnait pas" (End of message)

J'ai essayé d'installer des drivers "compatibles", mais je n'arrive pas a trouver "le bon=qui marche".

Thanks for "professional" advises!
Best regards/Cordialement,
Yann

I would suggest going to Canon.com and downloading the drivers, when I transfer images to my computer it uses canon software. I have a similar question in another post, hope everything works out.

My French isn't perfect - though that's clearly an error message from Windows saying that the USB connection has failed and Windows can't reconnect.

You can mess around with this - try different USB ports, try uninstalling the camera from the Device Manager when it's connected, try connecting the camera to the computer for the first time logged on as an Administrator. I don't believe that Ixus needs a driver - almost all the Canon compacts are Mass Storage Devices, which work with the drivers built in to Windows.

I'd suggest an alternative approach. The chances are that it will be faster to use a card reader, and the card reader won't drain the batteries of your camera either. A USB 2 card reader that has SD as one of its slots is inexpensive, and may well be a worthwhile thing to have.
