Greetings,
I have a 10D with the 50/1.4 and 28/135. I am shooting my sister's wedding in May, and would like a longer zoom, perhaps 300mm.
What are my options? I don't want to spend a mint. Under $600 if possible. I know there is tons of great "L" glass out there, but are there any good Sigma's?
Any advice on my next lens would be great!
Rob

i have mounted only sigma lenses on my d60 because l lenses are too expensive
i am happy with them, specially, 70-300 apo, 24-70/2.8 and 50mm2.8 macro

Sigma makes a 100-300 f/4 "EX" lens that is very high quality. I am a happy sigma user my self,.. but I stick with there "EX" lenses. They are very good lenses.
So the 100-300mm f/4 or if you aren't sure you need the 300mm there is the 70-200mm f/2.8,.. or Canon's 70-200mm f/4.

I have the following Sigma lenses and am VERY pleased with the results:
24-70 2.8
70-200 2.8
50-500 4-6.3
Using them on a 10D the 24-70 has done well with portrait, 70-200 great for low light sports and for daylight stuff (soccer, football, parades, etc) the 50-500 is great.
some day I want some 'L' though.

I too can vouch for the 70-200mm f/2.8 and 50-500mm Sigmas. Bith very high quality lenses, and both "EX" series.

Hi!
If weight wasn't an issue, but this one is 5 3/4 lbs, I'd reccommend the 120-300 F2.8 EX/HSM/APO/IF, but this lens will set you back $1900 before filters. Scratch that.
From here on I can only say that you can check out reviews from a number of sources, including people on this forum. I wish I could help u but not here. Under $600 really puts a limit on the stuff I have heard good things about.
Cheers,
Canuck

I've got the 70-200. Takes beautiful photos, but hunts more than I would like in low light sports action situations (indoor gym) on a D30. I've started to use it in manual mode as a result, focussing to a spot, rather than using the AI SERVO function.

I love my 70-200 f/4L. It's light weight, affordable, and L. I haven't missed f/2.8 in this range.

Rob,
Make sure that you use an external flash unit if you're using a serious bit of glass on your camera. The on-camera flash just doesn't cut it. (It was a mistake I made a few years ago ... =).

You're right on that one. However, in the 300 mm zoom range I don't think a flash unit will help much.
Sigler,
there are also some older L lenses (80-200 f/2.8 and 100-300 f/??) that might deserve attention if you can get good deals on them used.

Andy

I have a mint 100-300 Sigma I'd let go for $600 if you want it. I don't use it nearly as much as I should and would rather have the money for a wide lens or digital rebel.

Hi,
The 70-200 f2.8 APO is amazing (Sigma), the 135-400 f4-5.6 is also very good for the extra reach (Sigma).
I use both and I love them.

I do have to disagree a bit here. I have a 550EX and I regularly use it at the 400mm end of my 100-400L lens. It uses a good percentage of a full charge when the subject is quite a distance away (more than 30 feet) but still capable of correctly exposing it and had proved very useful. :)
