Hi there,
here is a shot I took yesterday of a whistling kite, my wife and I sat and watched this bird circle our car for 1/2 an hour, I was truly majestic.
I would have like to be closer, and was today looking at the canon x2 teleconverter, how much quality would be lost?
Here are the stats for this shot:
1/1000 sec, 70-200mm F/4 L at 126mm, F/4, Aperture Priority and run through "Neat Image" noise reduction software.
C & C welcomed, good or bad.
Regards Darren

Good in-flight shot of this Kite, you have picked up quite good detail.
If only that extra zoom to get in closer. Regarding the 2X extender I can't comment on, sorry, I don't have one.

thanks Tony,
you know the funny thing is, i had the 200mm end of the lens and only shot this at 126mm which is dissapointing.

Hi Darren;
I don't know about the 2x (you lose 2 stops), but I use the 1.4x with my 70-200 f/4L (lose 1 stop) with NO noticeable quality loss..
With the 300/350D's 1.6x sensor and the 1.4x extender, the 200mm end gives an effective 450mm f5.6... Not a bad push for a 200mm lens!

Think it would look better if you hadnt over pushed the shadow and highlights as it clear from the halo around the image mate
I gave up trying to get good shots of kites with the 70-300 and the 70-200 and finally went for the 100-400 and dont regret it at all as for the 2x TC you lose a lot unless in very good light

Thanks Varanus,
to be honest I didn't feel the image was good enough full stop. But I wanted to I.D. the kite and edited it to post on another site and thought what the heck i will post it anyway. I have a lot of good spots to see these birds and would love to shoot them, I was about 30m from this bird and just missed a dive for a baby rabbit i was so dissapointed, and thought i could get closer with a x2.
Thanks for looking Darren
