Last friday I collected my new Canon 100mm-400mm f4.5-5.6 L IS lens from work (trust it to arrive on my day off). I've taken a number of photos with it, but following convention I have to upload the Duck photos first.

Sadly I was away over the weekend, and even though I tried to visit the 'Duck Pond' there wasn't a waterfowl to be seen, so I've been visiting Moore Nature Reserve during the evenings this week, and apart from the bugs have really gotten to love the lens. but it isn't half heavy:rolleyes:

No common photos of Mallards yet, (WWT Martin Mere trip planned for Saturday) so I've got a couple of different shots.

All shots taken with the 100-400 and the Canon 350D.

#1 Duck Silhouette - f5.6 1/2000 400mm, ISO 400 cropped,

#2 Duck Silhouette - f5.6 1/2000 400mm, ISO 400 uncropped,

#3 Ducklings in formation- f5.6 1/800 400mm, ISO 400 uncropped,

The Sun was across the lake, and the water level was around 1-2m below the bottom of the hide, most of the animals were out of reach of the lens.

What do people think? have I satisfied the forum conventions? or can I have an extension until Saturday?

Congrats on the new lens. I'm certain you will enjoy it. #s 1 and 2 are actually Canada Geese here. I too will be looking for the close-ups!

Lovely silhouetted shots of the geese with the golden colour of the water.
Good start with the new lens. I'm too a proud owner of this Lens.
Look forward too Colin to some nice close -ups.
