Just picked up a good used example and difficult to get the grin off my face but it's got an awful lot of custom functions

Already set the EC button to focus like the 20D but things like the autofocus sensitivity are troubling me a bit, is it better to set it to high or low for things like motocross??

I know there was a thread similar a while ago but I can't find it. Any recommendations for the settings you guys usually use?

CF 17-1, and leave the AF alone for motocross. If you make it sensitive it will focus on flying dirt.

....and I love to see a few pictures of a motocross track in Scotland (the track)

Here is the Sport Illustrated (http://www.siphoto.com/?canon1DM2.inc) settings.

This might have been the one you were thinking about

The SI settings are not really suitable for motorsport and I certainly would not recommend CF17-1 as it is too easy to have focus end up on the wrong car/bike when more than one is in the shot. You will find the default CF settings work just fine.

Thanks, I guess it's trial and error to set it up the way I like :)

I have never had any issues with using 17-1 and Motocross or Supercross, and as a matter of fact I think it helped the AF. Of course everyone has their own do's & don'ts, but before you rule out a feature that was designed by Canon for fast moving objects........you might want to try it first.

Here's a few pro's you might know

And here's a couple buddys, with a distracting background.......AF is just fine, all shot with (17-1)

That is absolutely true imho. That is exactly how I found out what works best for me.

After much trial and error my first outing with the 1D I found that turning up the servo speed sensitivity to high, selecting 1 AF point, and using the 7 point expanded AF area gave me the best results for shooting sports outside. I'm sure this varies depending on the sport and photographer.

Beautiful pictures SeanH!

I have always used 17-1 since day 1 with my MKII.
