I'm starting to enjoy seeing all the subarus and mitsubishi's representing, i am a subaru owner with some respect for the evo. Pictures 5 and 6 are by far my favorites. What was your set up for those (lens wise), and is it just parked uphill and your shooting from the bottom? As for the fart cannon...who am i to complain, i've got the hks carbon-ti,measures 3.2 inches i think.

Oh yea...sweet ride

Well done, Vandit! Especially 2, 9, & 11.

I can understand if this is from purely aesthetic standpoint. I don't much like the look of today's exhausts either. However, from a performance standpoint, it's a necessary evil...especially once you start turning up the horsepower. Even on a stock turbocharger, modified EVO's with stock engines can put out 330 - 360hp at the wheels (that's over 415hp at the crankshaft). This figure would be unattainable with the amount of backpressure a stock exhaust pipe (nevermind the catalytic converter) would cause.

You're fairly opinionated for a moron with an Altima.

Great pics, which kit is that?

Nice work, colours look great.

Shame about the telegraph pole in #5, and people trying to spoil your thread.

Very nice set of pics, really I like them all as there is a good variety....it's hard to maintain strong reds in the aftrenoon sun, I see you had the same problem as me when I shot a red bike recently. You can't beat nice even light, but then brilliant background skies like you have here would be missing.

I agree, coffee can exhausts just don't do it for me. Also, you can run no cat and throw a resonator on there for a less obnoxious sound. Just my opinion but to each his own ;)

i love the colors!! i like #2 especially.

and how did you get those clouds on #8? Did you shoot from the rocky's or something??

also, besides a photographical point of view, I think you should black out the headlights and get Lancer (non altezza lights) tail lights :). just my 2cents.

Vandit, awesome work man. Your lighting was there for you. And i'm in love with #'s 9 and 11. Very simple but yet very effective in getting that motion in there. Well done man. Look forward to seeing more from you in the future

wow, thats cool  , I'm sure the owner can give you a list of mods on that car that justify a bigger "fart pipe", It would be like taking an 03 cobra thats got some serious mods done like throttle body, new maf, intake, longtubes, an x-pipe, a 4lb lower with a stage 3 ported eaton, and a custom tune, but you forget to change out your stock catback which has 2 1/2 " tips or whatever they are, you just dont do it and same goes for imports.... that statement was uncalled for because that car is amazing, and same with the pictures, kudos to the owner and kudos to vandit for some awesome pictures

Thanks for the comments guys!

The car isn't mine, it belongs to a local guy. About the exhaust, it's pretty loud too, but when he gave me a ride in it and went WOT, the exhaust was the last thing on my mind. It's a 12-sec car w/ minimal mods and he plans go going faster.

edel33: You got it, basically, just found a piece of road w/ a hill and shot up from the bottom. There were some remnants of rooftops and powerlines going across them, but I removed them in post-processing.

bikerider: Definitely challenging with the reds. I need to get my monitor calibrated. Worst of all, I was back home when I adjusted half of em, then came back to school and editted the others and the monitor I have here and there make the pics look very different.

Coco-Puffs: The clouds were just there for me that day. I darkened it a bit to bring them out. I'm in south Texas, about 150miles west of the Gulf Coast, and I was shooting in that direction, so maybe that contribued to the clouds.

F40: I believe the bumper is C-West.

DigitalMDX: Nothing fancy going on in exif data, I believe the two since car shots were 1/320 and f/5, the group shot was 1/200 and f/11. ISO 100, using an EF 75-300 f/4-5.6 I borrow from a friend mounted on my cheapo Sunpak tripod since my more sturdy tripod was too tall at it's shortest setting. I underexposed the cars a bit to not blow out the sky, then brought them back out in post-processing. All other shots were with the kit lens.

Thanks again!

OK. why??

are you racing? are you a speedster?

I cant see why people must hook their cars up. visually, yes, thats sweet, but for speed? HELLO, there are speed limits in this country, and they do not top out at 160mph.

if youre going to the track, thats one thing, but please, dont go up my street with your dirt bike sounding "car" trying to shatter windows and burn rubber.

youre so cool.

Exactly, there's a difference. There's a difference from the people who blast down your street to the ones in these pictures. Dont hate all imports because you have crappy neighbors.

I have some kids on my street that do about 45mph around my neighborhood in a civic (can only do 20 safely) and I dont hate civics. I just hate the drivers

like you said, some of us cant afford two cars (a daily driver and a track car) so we have to mod our daily driver.

and just ignore the little fast and the furious wannabe 17 year olds.

GregP, did I offend you in some way? Exactly what gives you the right to judge me on this issue? I merely offered to share some of my insight into this particular conversation as it happens to be my profession. That said, I'd like to know why you chose to attack me when I've never done anything to you.

I have to agree with the rest of the guys here. You made the first negative comment when I posted that I was doing a ford gt shoot, saying that they're really common and your sick of them (something like that). Then jumped to do anything to get near one or possibly ride in one for a photoshoot. You were even going to drive 1.5 hours to do so.

You seem like a nice guy, but you need to contemplate before you post.

yes. I've only noticed on Imports (and ricey domestic cars) have them, where do you see them on any other type of car or truck? and the actual hole is only 2-3", not 4"+ of the tip size.

3in x 2.

Would you rather see an import with duals? I dont think you'll find a force fed V8 with smaller than a single 3in outlet.

BTW, I tried to look through your site but it isn't working for me.

no, but imports usually have small engines... so why put huge tips on them. it would be more logical (and tasteful) if the tips were the same size as the actual piping and not have such comedic value.

Most turbo cars, my wrx and probably this evo, run 3 inches or greater piping, so the tip would be big regardless. Since "we" have smaller engines and turbos, we want to allow our car to breathe at full capacity and this can be achieved by removing the cats and adding wide catbacks/uppipe/downpipes.

Rumjungle

Actually, engine size shouldn't dictate the size of exhaust systems...hp output should. With modern technology, properly prepared japanese engines under 3 liters (a chevy 350, for example, is 5.7 liters) can produce upwards of 800hp with some regularity. In stock form, these same engines produce less than 300hp. Understandably, these two applications would require drastically different exhaust systems for them to function properly. In fact, 3-3.5" single exhaust systems (while considered to be very large) are actually too restrictive on very high powered cars. In these rare cases, you'll find that an even larger exhaust is required to produce maximum power.

I do agree that many of the exhausts on the market have oversized exhaust tips just for aesthetics regardless if they're slated for use on a Toyota Supra or a Scion xA. Many people like 'em, some don't. I'm one of the don'ts, btw. And while you're right in that an oversized tip has little effect on hp output, the fact that these types of exhausts are produced by just about all of the major exhaust manufacturers tells us that they are in serious demand. Like it or not, they aren't going anywhere until the trend changes.
