I've just installed Photoshop Elements and I find the cropping tool isn't as accurate as it was with Limited Edition which I've used previously. I do a lot of scanning and I often want to trim the scans, especially for old photos with white borders which I want to lose or where the scan isn't 100% square on, but the tool seems to 'jump' the last few mm as I get towards the border of the scan. To put it another way I can't trim a very fine edge off a scan but have to take off at least the same few mm which with photos taken without much margin around the subject means I might lose the top of someone's head. The same applies of course with downloaded photos. With LE the only limitation was how carefully I could move the mouse. Has anyone else had this problem ?

I have PS7, but I believe in Elements that under the VIEW menu you can turn Snap on and off. When it's on the crop will snap to guides and the image borders.
I'd bet that you have Snap enabled and that it's snapping to the image border.
Here's a link that discusses SNAP:

Right first time Dave ! I'd never have picked that one out myself.
Like the man on that helpful link you posted says, it's an annoying command. especially for someone like me who didn't even know it was there ! I guess it's mentioned in the Help section somewhere but I couldn't see anything.
Thanks for your help.

Also, if you want snap-on on by default you can hold down key while you do those last fine adjustments.
