Hi All,
I have a Canon EOS 1DS Mark II (16.7 megapixel). What is the best Macro to buy for this camera? Not cheap ones, best quality regardless of price.
Cheers

Although I own the Canon EF 180L Macro, if it was today, I'd look hard at the Canon 100 2.8 Macro.

Depend on your need and shooting style, any of the Canon lenses could be your best macro lens. We could come up with better suggestions if you tell us what's your intended use of the lens.

It really depends on what you want to do, pretty much any proper macro lens can provide you with excellent results - if you use it right.

I'm pretty happy with my EF-S 60 mm macro, but I would say the canon 100mm macro 2.8 would be my choice. The advantage with the 60 is that it works as a nice portrait lens for me but also, I can do a little more handheld. The 100 or 180 would require more tripod work...

If you're going to shoot insects then the Canon 180mm will give you a greater working distance. If money were no object then that would be my choice. :)

of course... if money were no object... I would get one of each! ;)

Reguardless of price... wouldn't the MPE-65 be the best? Up to 5x magnification sounds pretty good to me...

I'd go for a 100mm canon macro lens first perhaps with a set of kenko tubes- a suitable flash bracket and diffuser, then after 6 months to a year get an MPE-65 when you have mastered the techniques.

MPE-65, about $800, but how can you not want 5X magnification.

with a full sized sensor the MP E65 makes sense as long as you realise it doesn't shoot below 1:1 and cant therefore be used for full body shots of larger insects. Also your working distance will never be more than about 5"
