Looking for a little bit of advise :)

I have a friend who wants me to take some pictures of a sponsored walking event which will be happening through the night, basically from midnight to 6am.

I use a 350D can someone give me some advise please, I only have the standard 'on-board' flash, 18-55mm, 70-300 lenses, What settings should i adopt to get the best pictures etc.

on board flash will be tough especially in the dark situation...pray for a full moon at least. The best advice I can give is buy a mounted flash like the 580ex. If you can't buy a flash - which is a great tool to have in the bag - I'd shoot in raw so you have more post processing options. Maybe shoot in manual too.

scout some positions on the route they're gonna take and see if there will be some nice stuff to do some time exposures. Bring along a flash and you can set the camera for a long exposure and actually walk off somewhere else to pop the flash manually...

focusing in the dark will also be difficult.
make sure to bring a bright flashlight in order to light up the area that you plan to shoot enough so that you can focus before the shot needs to occur
