Hi All,

Two shots, one coloured, one converted to black and white with a little grain added.

I've been looking at both most of the afternoon and can't decide which I like best.

Both shot from my home office window. The hills are the Malvern Hills in Worcestershire, UK. Shot on 10D with Sigma 17-35 with a circ. polariser.

Cheers

Ian

I like the colour better. There seems to be more detail in the strong whites, and the horizon has more to it.

The blue, white, browns work together better than the black and white version.

Really nice sky no matter which format is used.

I don't think there is much difference, there isn't really much colour in the colour version anyway.

Both nice pictures though.

By the way the black and white looks a little short on contrast to me and maybe a little too bright. There is a lot of nearly burnt out whites and no really dense black, at least on my screen.

There is one other downside for me - I can see the Malverns from my window at work, so this picture reminds me of work!!

Hope you don't mind Ian but this is how I like it? I made a colourised greyscale out of it in Photoshop. I tried to retian the detain in the clouds too.

regards
Martin.

Thanks everyone.

Mark
I do apologise for reminding you of work. I know how much that can hurt :) I've included a modified B&W below but I can't do too much with the white areas as some are totally blown out. I'll have to play further with that one, probably back to the the original RAW.

Martin
No, I don't mind at all. I actually like that effect a lot. Must play in Paint Shop a bit more.

Cheers

Wow, that is a lot more dramatic - even the burnt out whites dont look so bad next to the hard black.

Martins colourised version is also good, so its quite hard to choose.

I think today I would go for the full on high contrast, but tomorrow in another mood, maybe the other or even the colour again.

I too like the original color version. Very dramatic - love the sunbeams!

I liked the original color shot, although I thought it was a tiny bit muddy.
Decided to jump on the bandwagon, and give it a go w/ photo editor...

I think this one is too pale!

Savage om,

Yes, that looks far too pale. Maybe it is just the difference between monitors being used to work/view photos that gives these differences ?

Cheers

Your right too pale (just adjusted the monitor).
well-- the treeline is too pale at least. I bet if I tried again, I could get it right lol- maybe keep the palesky/mountain, and overlap/ paste original treeline into it.

Oh well--- this is your pic. I wont kibbitz any more.

Like the original color one. Nice shot - a lot of people would liketo have that kind of view while at work. You are lucky.

I like the Color one as well. The blue adds to the dramatic nature of the shot. Great beams of light...very nice.
