after some suggestions from board members.. i've decided to take a stab at shooting manual with my G6. here are 3 photos of chloe.. she's our daughter.. :D
these two photos are blurry.. especially the ear part taken under low light conditions.

after taking 25 photos and none of them satisfied me.. i shot some more and finally got one that i am pretty happy with for a first-timer.

We always called our dogs our kids even after kids so I can relate they are as much trouble as kids.
We have our grandaughters dashaund here the exact same colors as yours they are sweet dogs.
I love the last pic.

Lovely dog. :) Is there a cuter mut than the Dachshund? I think not.
Was the camera handheld? I think you've obtained pretty good sharpness for shutter speeds of 1/5 and 1/10 of a second. I reckon the first two could be easily salvaged with some sharpening in post.

Cute dog.

thanks alans... yeah i was going to do some pp.. but didn't want to have the blueish color like the your edit. it's kinda hard to balance it because the bedsheet is yellow as you see in the original picture.
sonja, nick... yup.. i love doxies.. they have such a great personality. chloe is snoring now btw.. and imitating her mommy's sleeping posture. haha
electricharmony.. thanks for your warm comments.

Here is one of chloe running while we were at the dog park in Mt.View, CA.
i'm still trying to learn how to get it to expose properly and actually still get the subject in focus..

:D
what a lovely dog
seems even bitches can be
(lovely)
edit
just saw the last shot added on.........she's gorgeous :)
pan with the camera along with her and click quickly (holding the camera real steady at the same time) when she is in the frame best , take a few shots like it and get in closer
but don't forget to get down real low... to her level
when taking shots of her on the couch or in the house (poetry) make sure the background or whatever she is lying on is a contrast to her colouring , not blending or blaring
that they are not fighting with each other (the dog and the background) for details to be shown

thanks marie... yeah i tried to take some photos of chloe running today using continue shooting mode. but those didn't come out great at all. i was sitting on the ground while she's running and an occasional kisses for her daddy.
yeah chloes really spoiled.. but what can we say.. she's our girl~

Beautiful dog and interesting thread!
I agree that G6canon’s pictures have a subtle yellow cast, but it ads to her golden color, and I like warm pictures for people (she is G6canon’s daughter, isn’t she?)
If you have Photoshop CS try the following correction:
Images >Adjustments > Color Balance
- Shadows 0, 0, 0
- Midtones -10, 0, +20
- Highlights -5, 0, +10
- Preserve Luminosity Checked
It worked for me in the third picture posted.

good for you:cool:
Foxy gets lots of walkies and I think it clips her nails:confused:
(I hope so ..'cos I don't, I mean clip nails .. not the walkies)
but it hurts when she leaps onto my lap in summer time (lighter clothes..me)
so maybe .............. her nails do need some clipping

she looks great with those blue blankets wrapped around her
you could try using flash at times if it is not too much into her face

I'm also starting to think that Chloe has the run of the house round there.

Hi, G6canon
Chloe is really photogenic.
After your pictures of her wake up, I played again with color balance, hue/saturation and levels.
This time, instead of using Images > Adjustments > xxxx I used
Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Color Balance…
Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Hue/Saturation…
Layer > New Adjustment Layer > Levels…
The tools are the same, but the corrections are recorded in separate layers and you can double click them to adjust your corrections as many times as you wish without affecting the original layer or background.
The goal was to change the colors of the left picture to mimic the colors on the right picture. Enjoy.

I always kept Daschunds... the larger variety wirehairs and standard reds.
The problem with the nails is that you cant see the quick, the nail is all black.
Even our vet would not cut them as the chances of making them bleed is very high, the quick can be up to a 1/2 inch or more out.
I used to take several goes at it, a little at a time, and I still got it wrong sometimes.
It takes up to half an hou for them to stop bleading. ThenI put on thin strips of sticking plaster to keep the dirt out. as some of the nails go almost straight forward they do not wear down.
Dacks were digging dogs, and that does wear the nails down, bur most people do not like them to dig their gardens up.

yah.. she loves to wrap herself in the blankets.. she's our personal heater during winter times.. haha.
she hates the flash.. but since i got the LSII diffuser.. she like it much better since it's not flashing in her face.

terry.. yup, chloe hates getting her nails done, cuz the vet made her bleed when she was younger. so now, she gets her front manicure every week.. and the back paws once ever two weeks. only little bits at a time.
but now we just take her out running as she's chased by our friends corgi and lab. hehe

Really cute pup and some nice images Rui.
My only advice would be to watch your shutterspeed when shooting in manual. You have incredibly steady hands though to get the results you did at 1/5 to 1/15s. :)

Most dacks sleep under their bedding, Does Chloe do that?
we had one called fozzy who would work his way into our bed in the early morning and snuggle between us.
I never caught him actually in the process, I think he had a ghost mode.

yeah chloe does that, so we got her a super soft fleese blankie from ikea in her crate, so she digs and digs till she's able to sleep underneath the blankie.
then in the morning time, after she hears my alarm clock, she would use her paws to gently scratch crate door so i would wake up and let her sleep in our bed with her mommy while i go to work.
as for sleeping between us.. not only does she sleep between us during the weekends, she will outright kick you if you are in her way of her sleeping posture. what's worse is if you snore too loud and woke her up, she will lick you till ur awake just so she can go back to sleep. but if she snores too loud and you try to wake her.. she'll keep her eyes closed but kick ur hands.
my wife said she's too smart for her own good.. haha
