taken at dusk with ringflash, mag from x3 to x5, no cropping. Given poor light and that the only support I used was a stick it shows this lens is not as difficult to use as is often suggested:

cool stuff, how do you manage to mask the ringflash reflections? I just got one and it has big brite rings showing up in anything reflective. I tried some polarization but the color's get wierd

you wont have that problem on most insects. Ladybirds and similarly highly reflective insects including ants however are a no go area for ringflash.

Lovely shots RM. Great eye detail but I also like the skin textures that show on shots like these :)

superb detail in these RM
Kraig you can cut a diffuser to the shape of your ringflash from an old plastic milk carton (make sure you was it 1st tho :))...... depending how thick the carton is you may need 2 layers
I use my homemade diffuser on my Sigma ringflash all the time....( I tend to fire 1 side of the ring a lot dimmer than the other also..

interesting idea - have you got a picture? I am a bit wary of diffusers since when I smelt burning after placing white sheet of paper in front of my pop up flash. I use the Stofens on my 420/430 without problem though.
