OK. I know I sound dumb but here goes: I have no problem doing all sorts of things with photoshop. The pictures I end up with are sometimes breathtaking. My BIG problem is that when I send them to my Lexmark X5150 they come out very dark and very muddled.I am quite aware that the printer is cheap but the quality, or should I say inaccuracy, is bad even for THIS printer. I mean it's nowhere in the ballpark. In fact I must say that beautiful pics aren't just not beautiful; they are downright UGLY. I am aware of callibration type things in photoshop but I set what I know in colorpace as they suggest in "Photoshop Artistry". Could the problem be in my OUTPUT somehow? I thought I had that covered. My settings are:

WORKING SPACES
RGB: Adobe RGB (1998)
CMYK: US Sheetfed Coated V2
Gray: Gray Gamma 1.8
Spot: Dot Gain 20%

COLOR MANAGEMENT POLICIES
RGB: Preserve Embeddded Profiles
CMYK: Preserve Embedded Profiles
Gray: Preserve Embedded Profiles

Profile Mismatches
Ask when opening
Ask when pasting BOTH CHECKED

Missing profiles
Ask when Opening CHECKED

Engine: Adobe (ACE)
Intent: Perceptual

Use Black Point compensation Unchecked
Use Dither (8-bit/ channel images) Checked

ADVANCED CONTROLS
Both Unchecked

Please help me figure out WHY my pics are so darn ugly. I would sincerely appreciate ANY and ALL help.

Thank you,
George

I will assume that your monitor is calibrated. If so, then the problem must be in the output to the printer, or something in the printer settings.

I have no knowledge of Lexmark printers, but you can try in the print preview dialog (check "Show More Options) to set the print space profile to sRGB, and the intent to Relative Colormetric. I don't have a ICC profile for my Canon S820 printer, but the sRGB works well.

Then make sure in the printer settings that ICM (or something like that) is off.

You did put the printer into 'Max Photo' print mode instead of 'Normal', right?
