Thanks Mandragora,
its actually very sharp on the original, just reducing for the web loses the quality/impact, probably just my photoshop skills.;)
Cheers

Hey Kiwibloke,
I found this site by accident.
I was actually walking around the backstreets on Newtown with a friend.
I found some big open gates and walked in, it is the 'Redfern Suburban....(something)'.
There is a very old wooden carriage, with all the sleepers, canteen, etc still inside.
I think its a location that Choderboy pointed me to.
Cheers
Marty

Heres another....bit arty for my usual grungy stuff

Fantastis shots. Back of Newtown, huh. Hmmm. I may need to take a wander... Yesterday was whale watch day - not a lot of success - maybe I should try land based stuff for a while, too.

I like the inside shot of the carriage. For some reason I keep looking at the rainforest advertising on the roof - so incongruous but, strangely, so appropriate.

Thanks Mandragora (what is that name.....?),
just looked at your posts, you have some awesome b/w conversions and your use of lighting and photoshop is great, keep posting.
Hey Kiwibloke, bad visibility yesterday to see any whales sadly. If you want the location of the train depot, pm and I will give you directions.
The writing on the inside of the carriage got many comments when I had it printed, but to be honest I didnt like it when I was composing the shot, but that just proves I dont know what I am doing....;)

Good shot of the red rattler. But I am biased! I wish they were still around (not on rainy days) Just looking at that pic I can imagine the sounds of sliding the backrests on those old seats and of course the reason for the "red rattler" nickname - the classic mexican wave effect of all the windows rattling when passing another train.

Hey Dave,
Red Rattlers certainly had a feel to them.
In the summer, they were hot and smelly, but flicking the backrest from one side to the other was always fun. Especially if you were like me and liked to face backwards, looking at all the other passengers.
I just looked at your post on trains, that was doen near the airport, where this is between Redfern and Newtown. Have you been to this location...?

And the 'natural' airconditioning...

No , have not been there, but I'm guessing you could see Redfern station.
From the end of the paltforms at Redfern you can see several of the old rattler carriages. Probably about 150 - 200 metres south of the end of the platforms.
There are a few other carriages a few hundred metres north of Tempe station.
Could be worth taking a train trip to Tempe from Redfern. You'll spot a few intersting things :)
My derelict locos were on the goods line , closer to the airport.

im always travelling on the "blue line" from the south to the city since i was 11 and i still havent had the couarage to "investigate" the abandoned red rattlers just before sydenham

p.s investigate = illegaly tresspass
but its for art sake so im sure they'll understand.......actually probably not

Hey matti

Marty, Dave (Choderboy) and I actually DID get a chance to go back to that location and we all got quite a few shots to walk away with.

It was a great day. I can't believe it was so long ago.
