HDR Struggle

I am struggling to get the hang of HDR processing.
This is the first image I have gone all the way to finishing. The rest have been too disappointing in the results.
Made from 5 individual shots , each a full stop apart, using all manual, and shutter speed to adjust exposure. The darkest was almost black shadow areas, and the lightest had blown everything except the shadow areas.

i cant get it either! i think my errors might be in the actual taking of the pictures thouhg

Amen to that! One of my idols.

I couldnt tell you if the HDR is right as Im still scratching my head trying to figure out how to do it properly myself. I do like the perspective of the shot though.
