*** If you're a 2nd photographer don't point your camera at the same people the main photographer is shooting ***. You'll get crap shots (like you found) and you'll potentially ruin his shots too.

#1 is a nice photo :)

thats not true, Tim. I have gotten plenty of good shots taking the same picture as the main photographer from a different perspective. If she was shooting portrait, I would bust out the zoom and hit closeups, etc. It depends on how you do it.

I also believe it's possible to get some good shots, like Sharyn says, it's how you do it. Yep, some probably will turn out crap if you're too far away, or not enough zoom, but some probably will be ok as well. Naturally one should first ask the pro if it's ok to shoot over his shoulder.

P.S. I had some of my wedding pics printed out and showed the couple whose wedding I'm shooting in Aug. They absolutely loved one shot where it was very clear the bride and her parents were looking at the pro. The reason they loved it was because the people weren't looking straight into the camera.
