A buddy and I decided to head downtown last night with our camera gear and play tourists in our own city. These are my first attempts at night-time photography, and had a blast doing so. The only downside is that it was cold, windy and rainy...by the time we headed back home we were freezing and drenched.
Shot #1 is Parliament, taken from across the river. #2 features the East Block building, taken from the front steps of Parliament. The last shot is a "mini" skyline, again from across the river...featuring the Supreme Court of Canada building on the right.

All are very good, Dan, but the sky in #2 makes it very special. I love the way a sunset can light a rainy, cloudy sky. It's almost 30 years since I was in Ottawa, but I remember it as a beautiful city.

Thanks guys for the replies. I like #2 best myself. Here is a wider angle of the same view, taken a little later that evening. BTW all these shots taken with the Kit lens...it performed better than expected.

Beautiful shots, Dan! Spectacular skies! I haven't been up to Ottawa since I was a kid, but it looks like a beautiful city.

I like the sky better in the first (#2) shot. I think the edge sharpness is quite indicative of a kit lens, since you mentioned it - especially on the wider angle shots. It seems soft, especially on the last shot you posted. If you tried to blow that up to a decent sized print I don't think it would hold up... just my 2 cents... -JK
