The new DSLR from Sonolta looks really good,. it's a solid solid offering for a first DSLR from Sony-Minolta.. and HUGE improvement over the constantly retreaded 6MP bodies that Pentax and Minolta (and even Noink) keep peddling.

(Why are they still trying to compete with the old 10D? )

The Sony on the other hand with it's 10MP and and innovative on board CCD shift image stabilization is awesome.

Sony has "absorbed" the pre-existing Minolta lens line up.. which is a damn fine collection. Minolta was easily the "number three" SLR system in eistance allready,. and Sony looks to be breathing new life into that system with the addition of the new Carl Zeiss leses as well.

So .. the vast majority of the lenses you see with the Sony alpha name on them.. are re-badged Minolta lenses. (With some exceptions in newer designs.. )
Minolta's lens stable was top nothc,. and the new Sony DSLRs will fit all of them,. new and old.

Quite frankly,. I am thoroughly impressed at how Sony is handling this,. most of us have been questioning how an Electronics giant like Sony would be able to deal with joining the DSLR world,. and Sony has shown us a very clever answer.. they will build on an allready existing system and save themselves YEARS (decades really) of development.

And it's not just lenses, thought that is the biggest hurdle, they have incorporated essentially the entire Minolt Maxxum line with minor tweeks and improvements (and I'm sure even more down the road) flashes, etc..

Sony has in one step announced a complete SLR system that is second only to Canon and Noink.
Canon will have another solid competitor to contend with,. especially in the ever burgeoning first time SLR buyers market,. and Noink must be shaking in it's shoes..

Based on specs alone (of course no ones tried it yet) the Sony is the best buy in the 20D/30D, D200 class price range.
