Mack warranty

Has anyone here ever purchased a Mack Warranty with their lens purchase?

If so how does this work? Whee do you send your lens for repair?

We don't have these in the UK by this name, but extended warranties are big business here too, and that's pretty much what this is.
For a lens I think it's wasted money, if the lens is a good one, the ordinary warranty is good enough. Sometimes extended warranties also cover accidental damage, but are more expensive that insuring the gear in other ways eg as a rider on your home insurance.
If you are planning on putting the gear thru some serious work, you might feel the cost of the insurance policy is better value for your circumstances, but I'd recommend 'self insurance' - if it breaks down after a year, fine, pay for the repair, but the odds of this happeneing are very low.
We also sometimes get a deal in the UK where if you pay for the item on a credit card, you can sometimes get a free extended warranty of an extra 1 year.
Regarding making a claim, if the item fails during the manufacturer's warranty, you usually have to deal with them yourself, otherwise if it fails during the extended warranty, you deal with the provider of the extended cover.
It will be interesting to see if anyone has used these sort of extended warranties and feels they have been good value. I'm inclined to think not....very cynical, me!
