Nearly identical shots except for the tree on the left. I think the shot with no tree might be better, but not sure. Does the tree help balance out the mountain?

I think the tree does balance it out, and also add perspective. IMHO.

I agree the tree gives something extra.

For me, I prefer the one without the tree. The tree is too dark and blends into the foreground and doesn't add enough perspective to the shot. IMO.

I think these pair of shots could be stitched together to allow the left most and right most trees to frame the mountain. When stitching the two frames, the forground trees in the middle should appear only once...
I agree too, that the trees are kind of dark. Perhaps an adjustment in curves could help. Also, the snow is rather grey. Levels or curves might help on this.

I am using an Ultrabright Viewsonic monitor and it is critical to my comments. This is a really great shot on my screen.
The left tree is a tad dark and the snow a tad grey -- looks like snow boarders have been at the hill. That said, for what is on the image it is very crisp, good contrast, and the greens start to emerge in shadows as we move towards the right.
Very, very nice.
If we went back again, I think that we would have to climb a tree to brak out into a better composition.
What do you think about re-shooting ?

With the tree is a better shot in my opinion. I can't comment on the colors or exposure because I'm on a hotel computer with a horrible monitor. But I as far as the compositon, I like the shot with the tree more. The tree adds to the setting and perspective.

Dunno. Seems to me better without the tree. Puts full focus on the peak.

The picture without the tree looks better. BUT! I always prefer making 'true' pictures. So, if the tree was at the place when you took the picture then it should be in the picture... (of course this rule is not valid for small retouchs)
