I like the Bogen/Manfrotto 680B, topped with their 486RC2 ballhead. Quite an affordable and versatile combination.

I use the same monopod/head combination as Skip, based on his recommendation a number of months ago and its been excellent.

I bought mine based on your experience, too. Love it.

Thanks for the discussion everyone, I just bought the 680 from
that same seller (photococan in VT). BTW: great service so far,
not only are they shipping today, but they easily changed my order
to the black finish after I'd ordered the aluminum...

I just got the Manfrottob 679B monopod with a 484RC2 ball and socket head. I haven't used it in anger yet but it is very sturdy and not at all heavy.
I struggled to choose between the various types of monopods avai;lable -, strings of names on a website mean nothing to me half the time - but in the end went with this one because it as not too heavy, and the ballhead because it was recommended here.
I probably won't have much use for this item till I get a long lens - have my eye on either the 100-400 or possible the 400 5.6 prime.....

i have the 70-200 f/4 l and felt a mono would reduce the amount of handheld i do because the tripod is too bulkt to cart....

I have the 3245 and love the grip action release,

A 3-section monopod, the 3245 extends quickly and has a bottom level adjustment as well. The upper section features a grip-action release that allows the top section to be adjusted 19" up or down automatically by squeezing and releasing the grip-action handle. Perfect for quick-action shots with minimal setup time.

I have 2 monopods that don't have adjustable ball-heads and I will get one sometime. Get one that you can pick up the camera to move it around without feeling like the monopod is a pain in the neck!
