View Full Version : Las Vegas...

Went to Las Vegas last weekend, and took one of those helicopter tours of the Vegas Strip.
These aren't the best in the world, but I learned that shooting from a moving helicopter can be, at best, challenging. The glare is from the windows. Shot with the 20D and 28mm f/1.8:

I would normally say that critiques and comments are welcome (and, I guess, they still are), but I don't foresee taking another one of those rides in the foreseeable future.
Just wanted to share...

I had a helicopter ride over Edinburgh the other week (Edinburgh from the air (http://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=174502)) and really enjoyed it. Like you, I found it was a bit of a challenge to avoid glare/dirt/helicopter bits etc when taking the shots. Your photos are all the more impressive for being night shots and taking a long enough exposure while not being vibrated to bits by the helicopter. They remind me of the opening credits of a CSI episode. ;)

One of our favorite shows here at the sprawling Parr Ranch; thanks!

Very impressive, Steve. When I've taken shots from a helicopter, the vibration required a fast shutter speed. You did a great job to get these.

Calicokat; Sparker: Thanks!
I was pleasantly surprised by the first shot. I didn't expect it to come out as well as it did...

The colors and lights are great, Steve. It really captures the feeling of Vegas well.

These are fantastic air view shots. Night time looks beautiful in Las-Vegas from the air. The colours are amazing.

Those came out great Steve...I was expecting to see way more evidence of motion in them. Well done!

Oh, believe me, I've got plenty of those!
I'd never shot from a helicopter before, so I was a bit apprehensive as to what the results would be...

Those look great! How much do those helicopter rides cost? That's one thing I've never done in Vegas yet.

We were visiting a friend in Vegas, and he paid the bill, as he'll use it as a write-off. For the duration of the 15 minute flight, we were "clients". Hey, works for me. I think they charge $69.00 per person.
I'll do it again, just to try to get some more acceptable shots. After all, Hell, I can drop seventy bucks in a Vegas casino in a lot less than 15 minutes!
Worth it? Yeah, I'd say so (even if I was the one paying the bill)...
