Does anyone out there know if the Canon 380 EX is compatible with the EOS 10D. The 550 EX & 420 EX are very expensive new in the UK - as is all photographic equipment!!!! I have seen a couple of 380 Ex's second hand, and looking at the specification it has E-TTL capability.

Hello,

I bought a 380EX to go with my film Elan several years ago and have kept it to work with my 10D. It seems to work perfectly--including E-TTL.

However, I am seriously thinking about upgrading to a larger flash--either the 420EX or, preferably, the 550EX. You might want to consider spending a bit more money and buying something that will last you a long time.

The 380 EX is fully compatible with the 10D, as are all EX units, as far as I know. The reason this one is not on the list over compatible units is simply the fact that it has been discontinued, giving way for the 420EX.
Bear in mind though, that the 380 EX does not sport all the features of its bigger siblings, so don't expect to find all of those mentioned in the 10D manual, as the text there relates to the 550 EX.

I have been shooting with the 380 EX on my 10D with very good results.
