Just wondering if anyone knows where Don Ellis has disappeared to. The forum just isn't the same without his comments and photos...

My guess would be He's either; A, Too busy at this time, B, He might just be taking a much needed break from everything, or C, He's out making image's? ;) I've known Don to go on extended walk abouts before.

Hi Everyone,
The short answer is that I posted a message a few months ago in another forum that drew some angry responses, so I took the time to respond to each of them in my usual reasoned way… really. :) A few hours later, the thread was removed by the moderator.
I didn’t agree with the decision, so I was left with the only two recourses you have as a guest -- live with it or leave. The incident stopped me long enough to realize that I could probably better spend my time adding to my own website.
I have photos from a year ago in Bali, from last October in England, from the anti-WTO demonstrations in Hong Kong in December, and most recently from Hanoi, where I spent six days and took over 4000 photos. All are destined to be galleries one of these days if I focus a little more than I have.
I didn’t leave a good-bye message for three reasons:
1. I’ve enjoyed participating on POTN over the last four and a half years and didn’t want to leave on a sour note.
2. The forum will continue just fine without me.
3. I didn’t want to give the people who would be happy to see me leave too much to smile about.
Thanks very much for your thoughts. I feel like an earthworm who’s been dug up from his snug tunnel. The sudden light is a little blinding but it’s comforting to know that, at least on this occasion, I’m not going to be threaded on a hook.
Take care. I wish you all the best in your lives and your photography.
Don

Thanks for replying, Don. Keep shooting and when you can, post. Those of us who are learning still need advice and comments, even if they are harsh sometimes.

Hi don,
sorry, wanted to send this to you as a PM, but your mailbox is full ...
It's a pity to hear that you had less than agreeable experiences on the forum, but I respect your decision.
While you are right ... the forum will continue without any single one of its members ... I still feel like a bit of me dies everytime when someone whose contributions I value decides to leave.
I wanted to thank you again ... back in January 2003, when I was trying to find out whether that G2 that somehow fitted into my budget if I really stretched it would be as good as the Olympus E10 or NOINK 5700 I really wanted (but that were both much more expensive than the very affordable 800$ G2  ), I came across the forum and across your website. Your photographs were the little nudge that I still needed to go sliding down that Canon route.
I wish you the best for your photography ... and don't be shy to come back now and then.

Haha ... most likely put a bit too melodramatically.
Actually, there's enough of me left alive...
Best regards,
Andy

I wonder what was Don's reply on the said topic...
Anyways, Don's pictures are just amazing. I mentioned to him that I like cityscapes and he gave me this link of Hong Kong buildings. I went to Hong Kong to use Norman Foster's Shanghai and China bank as my case study. I never had the chance to photograph as good (or even close) as Don's. I don't know, it's the most rebellious building on Hong Kong's skyline.
I still remember the "grouchy" avatar! lol. joke.
Ok Don, wishing you luck on your endeavors. I'm still hoping though that even once in a while, I'll see a message from you here at POTN. A lot of newbies (like me) might learn from you.

I am afraid my English is not good enough when it comes to express grateful feelings, so I’m happy some of you are highlighting Don’s contributions.
I met him in this forum as soon as I signed in, and received his unconditional support when I was in need of it.
I enjoy his work.
It is not a coincidence that the two sticky threads of this Canon G-series digital cameras forum were started by Don.
The first one is a comprehensive source of information about infra-red cameras and photography.
The second one, the rules for the Speed Challenges started by Don 71 weeks ago, allows us to post our pictures to get them judged and commented, enhancing our knowledge every week.
Echoing AndyThaler I respect Don’s decision, but I have the secret hope that I will read some posts from him…
Thank you Don.
