More shots when I wake up, but here is James Hetfield singing opera.

This was last nights show in Tallinn, Estonia

So, do they sing in Estonian? :-) I normally don't like looking up their nose but the ring of lights is so amazing I hardly noticed! :-) Can't wait for more.

They gave us 3 feet from the front of the stage to shoot so there was no option but shooting up their noses. With 40 photographers in the pit it was a bit nuts, but I have some good shots also that I got from the side without nasal cavaties showing ;)

I was kidding! I am most fortunate to never have this sort of jostling with other photographers and am usually prohibited from getting my belly up to the stage rather than the opposite!

Very nice shot, and that's putting aside my bias attitude because I am a big Metallica fan. Crisp and a nice shot, looking forward to seeing more.

man, james is looking old, but great shots of a very dynamic band. this used to be my all time favorite band, but i've cooled on them significantly the past few years. but i would check out their next album, just because i'm curious to hear what they come up with.

I'm curious....how do you get access to shoot bands like Metallica? I'd love to shoot some national acts. The closest I've come is Nicole Jamrose of Nashville Stars fame.

I shoot for our countries second largest newspaper so they get me in everywhere. I also provide pictures for the promoters, organizers, magazines and sometimes the bands themselves at different shows. I heard some of my pictures are on metallica.com, but I haven't gone to check.

Basically you need to be shooting for someone to get in. Unless the promoters are going to benifit from you being there, you are not going to get in.

really dont like the band, but the photos are nice :)

and to talk more on shooting bands. being not a photographer for the 2nd largest paper, alot of times if you just go to the show, bring your camera, and ask the person taking tickets or a bouncer. they will go make sure its ok with the band, alot of the time the band will want you to send them copys of the photos via e-mail. so far i have only really done this with the bands (Tapping the Vain, and VAST) which while arent the most popular bands, are national.

those are all just using the ambient stage lights right? I know here in Vegas you can't use a flash when shooting live shows.

I still love Metallica!

I really liked your shots as well. The last one you posted, however, for some reason makes me think of Jon Voight  Must be lack of sleep.

Top shots.. Big fan of the band. I never noticed James was going that grey in the beared though. I must be also be getting old.. hehe.. Keep up the good work. You are lucky to have been able to shoot this cool band. Looking on the site link man you got some realy cool shots of the bannd in angles I've never seen before. If i were to pick 1 band to shoot this would be my pick. they put out so much energy on stage.
