View Full Version : Rumor - Stopped Production of the D-Rebel?

I just got off the phone with a Dell's Small Business CSR. I was shopping for a D-Rebel, the CSR told me that Dell has put a hold on the D-Rebels purchases because Canon has paused the production of this camera. He pushed the 10D and was willing to sell me the 10D at $1400, plus 20% (thanks to coupons found in this forum) off on the accessories, plus free 2nd day shipping. He also told me that I will not be able to get the 10D on the Dell's comsumer webpage due to a special arrangement between Dell & Canon.
This doesn't sound right to me and it's contrary to what I've read in here. Maybe Dell just wants to stop the bleeding by stop selling the D-Rebel at 10% off.
By the way, the quoted price for the 10D including a 24-85mm USM len and a 550EX is just a tad above $2100. What do you think?

Just got off the phone with another Dell's CSR. She told me that Dell is fullfilling previous D-Rebel orders but new ones are plced on a waiting list. This CSR accepts about 22 orders a day on this camera. Dell has 5000 CSRs.
I think the demand is outstripping the supply of the D-Rebel.

Guys, will they still accept orders on the D-Rebel? It isnt on their site anymore. is there a stock number or e-value code I need, along with coupon codes and what not from FatWallet?

I'd like to order one with all the discounts, on backorder if they're taking them, essentially.

D-Rebel: Dell's SKU#A0166860
If they accept the order, there's a 10% off + free S/H untill 10/31/03. You may want to ask if anyone here has an unused Entertainment Book's coupon good for $50.

I think it was a salesman's trick to get you to buy the more expensive camera. Don't believe anything people tell you!

ArcLight,
Any luck on your order or usable coupon/discount?

With that kind of a discount, I would grab the 10D in a heart beat!

A 10D for $1400? That's a mediocre deal. I got my 10D for significantly less. The 20% off was on accessories, not the body.

I agree that Dell is probably trying to stop the crazy deals people are getting on the Digital Rebel. Their latest 10% off coupon on their Home website specifically says that it EXCLUDES digital SLRs.

I picked up a Digital Rebel as a backup camera for $795 with the kit lens, and that was with free 2nd day air shipping and no sales tax. I don't think Dell made much money from my sale, and I'm sure they don't want to continue that.

The Rebel is great, by the way. 10D is obviously more solid and pro looking, but my 10D backfocuses MUCH more than my Rebel does on my 24-70L in test shots and in real shots. Sure, I could have the 10D adjusted, but do I honestly want to ship all my lenses and 10D to Canon? Maybe I'll just use the Rebel. :)
