What Happened? I can't see my photos ??? HELP

I came home today and logged on my website for to my dismay, all my photos have broken links. What the heck happened.

I am almost 100% sure it is a server isssue, but what do I tell my hosting company, undo the changes you made today?

I have hosted my EE website with this company for over 1.5 years and never had this problem.

Can you ftp into your host to check if the photos have been deleted?

Server admin has messed up permissions (probably).

I've seen this happen before in many servers... :(
