I am having trouble with Canon's RAW when convert a CRW to a TIF, and then open that TIF up in Photoshop. When I open a TIF in photoshop that was created with the converter utility, half of the image editing functions are unavailable. I can't add layers and many filters are not available.

However, if I open the TIF up in a different program, save it again as a BMP (for example) and then open THAT file up on PS, everything works fine. Other TIFs open fine too. I'm only having problems with TIF saved by the RAW converter.

Has anyone had this problem or know of a solution?

Thanks

PS 7 and under will only handle 8bit images in most functions. You can change it from 16bit to 8bit by going into the Image/Mode selection area.

Photoshop sucks, $600 for a program that doesn't do what $100 programs can do. I've used 16 bit TIFs in Paint Shop Pro (7 and 8) and I can do layers, etc.

Well, at least it looks like PSP opens 16 bit files just fine (PS Elements gives an error), but apparently PSP converts 16 bits to 8 bits. I wonder why PSP shows 16 bit files as having more colors than 8 bit ones, then. Oh well.
